Maurice Bradley, the East Londonderry Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) and a lifelong supporter of Coleraine FC, has found himself at the centre of controversy following a ban from the Showgrounds, the home ground of his beloved team.

In a statement released today, Bradley detailed the events leading up to this unexpected prohibition.

Earlier in the day, Bradley attended the Harry Gregg Foundation Small Sided Games Centre, where he was involved in local football activities. After witnessing Portrush triumph over Coleraine Crusaders in the final of the Railway Arms Steele and Sons Shield at R King’s Stadium in Portstewart, he hurried to the Showgrounds, eager to support his team in their crucial match against Glentoran.

Upon arriving, however, Bradley was met by a steward who informed him of his ban from the venue. He detailed the encounter, stating, “A bit of small talk ensued, two up-to-date passes were produced: one as an IFA Council Member and the other a NIFL Press Pass to cover local football.”

Bradley, who has a long history in the sport, having played football from the age of 15 until 54, expressed his disbelief at the situation. His extensive background includes roles as a long-standing member of the Coleraine and District League, the North-West Football Association, and as a founder of multiple football initiatives, including the Coleraine FC Academy and the Harry Gregg Foundation.

“What would I know about football? I have visited grounds up and down the country and never had a bit of bother, that is until today,” he stated, reflecting on his decades of experience in the sport.

In his video statement, Bradley indicated that he would allow the footage to explain the circumstances surrounding his ban, leaving many questioning the reasons behind such a drastic measure against a prominent local figure.
