Paul McKillop, 61, of Hazeldene Drive, Bushmills, appeared at Ballymena Magistrates’ Court on Thursday charged with attempting to have a sexual communication with a child.

The alleged offence relates to a period between September and October this year, the court heard.

McKillop appeared by video link from police custody and was granted bail of £400 to an address subject to police approval.

Bail conditions prohibit him from entering Bushmills, contacting anyone under 18, or possessing an internet-enabled device.

The court appearance follows a video posted on social media showing a man being confronted at his front door by a ‘child protection team’ from an address in Bushmills.

The case was adjourned to Coleraine Magistrates’ Court next month.
