On Saturday, 22nd November, the picturesque Bushmills Courthouse played host to “Crafted on the Coastline,” a special pop-up showcase event that celebrated the artistry and craftsmanship of nine talented makers from the Causeway Coast and Donegal.
The event drew in visitors keen to engage with local talent and discover the stories behind their creations.
Supported by the International Fund for Ireland as part of the Connecting Communities project, the event provided a unique platform for makers to connect with the public. Attendees had the chance to meet the artisans, learn about their craft, and gain insight into the journeys that led them to establish their businesses.
In the lead-up to the showcase, the makers participated in two in-person training sessions focused on Marketing & AI, led by Debbie Rymer, and Storytelling, conducted by Colin Urwin. These sessions equipped the artisans with valuable skills to enhance their branding, share their narratives, and present their work with newfound confidence.
While the makers were already skilled in their respective crafts, many faced challenges in areas such as marketing, storytelling, and effective branding. The training sessions, coupled with the collaborative experience of preparing for a cross-border event, fostered an environment of learning and support. Participants exchanged knowledge and gained practical tools to bolster their social media presence, manage their time efficiently, and articulate their stories with clarity.
The initiative not only provided a boost in skills and confidence but also fostered a supportive cross-border network of creatives, an opportunity that many would not have had otherwise. Through in-person training, the event itself, and ongoing support via a WhatsApp group, the project encouraged collaboration, joint problem-solving, and a renewed momentum for the small creative businesses involved.
The Connecting Communities project, which funded the event, aims to build new relationships between volunteers and community representatives engaged in social innovation across the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough area and the border regions of Rathmullan and the Fanad and Inishowen peninsulas in County Donegal. By offering training, events, specialist mentoring, and peer-to-peer clustering, the project seeks to strengthen community ties and enhance creative initiatives in the region.
“Crafted on the Coastline” not only showcased exceptional craftsmanship but also highlighted the importance of community support and collaboration in nurturing local talent.
