Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council have set a May start date for a new private dog fouling enforcement company.

At February’s Environmental Services Committee meeting Alliance councillor Lee Kane requested an update on the enforcement of dog fouling and littering legislation across the borough, following approval to issue a contract to new dog fouling enforcement officers last November.

In February councillor Kane said he had received several complaints from constituents within his Ballymoney DEA, and personally encountered 17 cases of dog fouling along Ballymoney High Street in a single afternoon.

At March’s Committee meeting, Director of Environmental Services, Aidan McPeake, confirmed council had now appointed a private enforcement company, with a start date of May 11.

He concluded: “Our private enforcement company is coming on board, I have confirmation that they will start on May 11, and they have identified a number of areas that they will target.

“Their objective is to cover each of the DEAs on a regular basis, so each of the areas throughout the borough will be covered, and we have targets set in relation to dog fouling.”
