North Antrim MP Jim Allister has welcomed the announcement that Wrightbus has been ranked as the number one supplier on a key UK public sector procurement framework.
This recognition highlights the company’s excellence in quality, innovation, and competitiveness within the industry.
Allister expressed his enthusiasm for this achievement, stating, “This is a significant endorsement of the quality, innovation and competitiveness of a company that has become one of Northern Ireland’s manufacturing success stories.” He emphasised that this accolade positions Wrightbus as the premier choice for public bodies across the UK when it comes to purchasing buses and coaches, including the next generation of zero-emission vehicles.
Having served as Co-Chair of the British Buses all-party group at Westminster, Allister has been an advocate for enhancing support for UK-built buses. He noted that this recognition serves as proof of British manufacturers’ capability to lead in the sector, urging the government to continue building on this success.
“Wrightbus is not just a local employer,” Allister remarked. “It supports many more jobs directly and across its wider supply chain.” He argued that this achievement fortifies the case for prioritising high-quality, UK-made products in public procurement, rather than opting for foreign alternatives.
Highlighting the broader implications of this recognition, Allister stated, “At a time when we are seeking to grow our economy, secure skilled jobs, and lead the transition to cleaner transport, Wrightbus is showing exactly what can be achieved.” This achievement not only reinforces the importance of local manufacturing but also sets a precedent for future public procurement policies aimed at sustaining and enhancing the UK economy.
