In a recent correspondence addressed to Minister for Infrastructure Liz Kimmins, Jon Burrows MLA of the Ulster Unionist Party has formally requested an urgent review of the A26 Frosses Road.
This comes in the wake of yet another serious road traffic collision occurring within just 24 hours of the Minister’s response to Assembly Question AQW 39528/22-27.
Burrows specifically highlighted the critical junctions at Kirk Road and Knock Road, stating that inadequate traffic management in these areas poses a “clear and present danger to life.” He expressed his frustration at claims made by officials regarding traffic flow, arguing that the assertion that motorists can exit the Kirk Road within 60 seconds overlooks the significant risks drivers face in doing so.
The MLA further noted that the situation at the Knock Road junction mirrors these concerns, particularly amidst ongoing construction of new housing developments, which Burrows believes will only exacerbate traffic pressures and safety risks.
Emphasising the strategic importance of the A26 Frosses Road for local residents, industry, and tourism, Burrows stressed that action should be taken immediately to address these hazards. He warned against waiting for further collisions or fatalities before the issue is treated with the seriousness it demands.
