David Jackson, the chief executive of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, has been convicted of speeding after being clocked at more than double the legal speed limit.

The incident occurred on October 4, 2025, when Jackson was recorded driving at 64mph in a 30mph zone. The case was brought before Coleraine Magistrates Court on Thursday morning (April 2).

As reported by the Belfast Telegraph on Friday, a solicitor told the court Jaxkson was behind the wheel of an Audi Q3 at approximately 10am when he was caught exceeding the speed limit.

The court heard that Jackson was en route to a funeral, a fact he included in his defence alongside a copy of the deceased’s death certificate.

Despite the circumstances, District Judge Peter King imposed three penalty points on Jackson’s driving licence. In addition, he was fined £75, which is to be paid within 12 weeks, alongside a £15 offenders levy.
