Ballymoney’s own Darryl Tweed is recovering in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast after a serious accident during the Supersport qualifying session at the North West 200 on Thursday evening.
The crash occurred near Portrush, prompting officials to red-flag the session. This marked the second red flag of the day, following a tragic incident earlier that morning which claimed the life of Czech rider Kamil Holan.
Tweed’s team took to social media to provide an update on his condition, stating:

“Darryl Tweed came off during last night’s 600 qualifying session, bringing out the red flag. Thankfully, Darryl is okay, but he is currently in the Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast undergoing ongoing surgery following the incident.”
The message continued to express gratitude towards the marshals, medical staff, and hospital personnel for their prompt assistance and care. It also acknowledged the outpouring of support and well-wishes from fans and friends during this challenging time.
As the racing community rallies around Tweed, the focus now turns to Tweed’s recovery, with hopes that he will soon be back on the track, doing what he loves.
