The Belfast Giants have announced a contract extension for their long-serving netminder Andrew Dickson, ensuring the 38-year-old from Ballymoney will don the Giants jersey for the 2026/27 season. This extension marks Dickson’s 16th season with the club, a testament to his enduring presence and influence in the sport.
Having first joined the Giants during the 2009/10 campaign, Dickson has become a cornerstone of the organization. Over his 15 seasons, he has made 52 appearances and contributed to an impressive tally of 14 championships, including seven Elite League titles, five Challenge Cups, and two Elite League Playoff titles. His remarkable achievements highlight his pivotal role in the team’s success.
Head Coach Adam Keefe praised Dickson’s contributions, stating, “There’s no doubt that Dicko is the heart and soul of our club. He epitomizes what it means to be a Belfast Giant, and his unwavering commitment to this city and organization is second to none. Dicko’s impact extends far beyond the ice, often helping new players feel part of the club from day one, which is something that cannot be taken for granted.”
Dickson, a product of the Junior Belfast Giants system, has a rich history in local hockey, having played for teams like the Belfast City Bruins and the Castlereagh Spartans. His dedication, professionalism, and passion for the club have earned him legendary status among fans, affectionately known as the Teal Army.
Reflecting on his return, Dickson expressed his enthusiasm: “It’s always an honor to come back for another season. This club and the people who make it what it is are truly amazing, so I’m pleased to support the team however I can to help it be as successful as possible. The coaches have built a really strong group of guys so far, so I’m excited to see what’s in store for the team next year.”
