In a recent visit to Ballymoney, Sinn Féin MLA and Chair of the Assembly Health Committee, Mr. McGuigan, highlighted the significant role that Men’s Sheds play in enhancing the health and wellbeing of local communities.
During the visit, McGuigan expressed his delight in meeting the members of Ballymoney Men’s Shed, commending their efforts in making a positive difference. He emphasised that Men’s Sheds offer far more than just a venue for practical skills and hobbies; they serve as welcoming spaces where men can foster friendships, share experiences, and provide mutual support. This communal environment is essential in combating social isolation and loneliness, issues that can severely affect both physical and mental health.
“From my position as Chair of the Assembly Health Committee, I have witnessed the critical importance of community-based initiatives that promote wellbeing, encourage social connections, and help individuals maintain their independence and quality of life,” McGuigan stated. “Men’s Sheds exemplify this in action.”
Across Ireland, Men’s Sheds are known for transforming lives on a daily basis. They offer purpose, companionship, and opportunities for learning, creating a sense of belonging for countless men from various backgrounds. Their impact often extends beyond their immediate members, with many groups engaging in projects that benefit local charities, schools, and community organisations.
McGuigan extended his commendation to the members of Ballymoney Men’s Shed for their dedication and enthusiasm in supporting one another. He asserted that their work exemplifies the powerful influence that grassroots community organisations can have on health and wellbeing.
“It was a privilege to hear their stories, learn about their activities, and observe the positive impact they are making locally,” he added. “I look forward to continuing to support and champion the invaluable work of Men’s Sheds across the North and throughout Ireland.”
