North Antrim MLA Jon Burrows has warmly congratulated Wrightbus following the
announcement that the Ballymena-based manufacturer is launching operations in Australia,
describing the move as another major milestone for one of Northern Ireland’
s greatest
manufacturing success stories.
The expansion marks a significant step in Wrightbus
‘ international growth, with the company
bringing its world-leading battery-electric and hydrogen bus technology to the Australian
market as demand for zero-emission public transport continues to grow.
Mr Burrows said:
“This is fantastic news for Wrightbus, for Ballymena and for the wider North
Antrim area. Every new international market the company enters strengthens its long-term
future and reinforces its reputation as a global leader in clean transport.
“For generations, Wrightbus has been a source of pride for our community. The skill,
innovation and commitment of its workforce have helped build a company whose products
are now recognised across the world.
“The decision to establish operations in Australia demonstrates the confidence that
international customers continue to place in Wrightbus and in the quality of buses designed
and manufactured here in Northern Ireland.
“
The Ulster Unionist MLA said the announcement was particularly significant as Wrightbus
celebrates its 80th anniversary, having established itself as one of the UK’
s leading zero-
emission bus manufacturers with thousands of electric and hydrogen vehicles already
operating across the UK and Europe.
Mr Burrows continued:
“The company has shown that advanced manufacturing and
environmental innovation can go hand in hand. Seeing buses designed and built with
Northern Ireland expertise operating across the globe is something we should all celebrate.
“Wrightbus is not only creating cleaner public transport solutions, it is supporting thousands
of jobs through its workforce and wider supply chain. Its continued growth provides real
economic opportunities for families here in North Antrim and sends a powerful message that
our region can compete successfully on the world stage.
“I want to congratulate everyone involved in this latest achievement – from the management
team to every member of staff whose hard work and dedication has helped make this
expansion possible. I wish Wrightbus every success as it begins this exciting new chapter in
