At Coleraine Magistrates’ Court on Monday (3 August), a man accused of a number of drugs charges was granted compassionate bail under the watchful eye of his mother.
The hearing, which took place via video link from Maghberry, confirmed that Mr. Edgar was able to see and hear proceedings effectively.
Defence Barrister for Jonathan Edgar’s, from Peninsular Apartment’s Portrush, Mr Green, confirmed the terms of the bail application, which had been agreed upon prior to the hearing. The court learned that Edgar would be released from prison on Tuesday, 18th August, with the earliest possible release time set for 8:30 am. He is to be returned by 3:00 pm, with his mother, designated to collect him and accompany him throughout the day, specifically for an appointment at Musgrave Hospital.
Police Constable Coyle expressed satisfaction with the arrangements, and District Judge Peter King reiterated the importance of adhering to these terms, stressing that he should remain in his mother’s presence at all times during the bail period. The bail amount was set at £500.
“Mr. Edgar, the police have agreed to the terms of your compassionate release for the purpose of visiting Musgrave. Please do not make them or me regret that decision, alright? Ensure you make your way to and from the appointment and remain in the company of your mother.
Judge King concluded, “For goodness’ sake, avoid getting into any sort of trouble while you are on bail.”
The case will be back before Coleraine Magistrates’ Court via video link on 24 August.
