Work on a £2.1 million refurbishment of Robinson Hospital is progressing, with upgraded facilities expected to reopen to patients in summer 2027.

The project, which began in May 2026, is being funded through Robinson Hospital Charitable Trust Funds and private funding held by the Robinson Board of Trustees.

The scheme includes a new-build extension featuring a multi-disciplinary room, staff base and plant room. It will increase the number of en-suite bedrooms in the 21-bed hospital from two to eight, improving privacy and dignity for service users.

The extension is also being designed in line with dementia-friendly principles, with service users and their families contributing to the development process.

Diane Spence, Director of Adult Community and Older People Services at the Northern Trust, said the project represented an important investment in the hospital’s future and its ability to meet the needs of the community.

She also expressed the Trust’s appreciation to the Robinson Memorial Hospital Trust, saying the refurbishment would not have been possible without its support.

Jacqui Armstrong, Director of Allied Health Professionals, Intermediate Care and Integrated Discharge, said she was pleased with the progress made and expected the completed facilities to enhance services for patients.

Hugh Clarke, Vice President of the Board of Robinson Memorial Hospital Trust, visited the project last week. He said the Trust was proud to support the hospital, describing it as a vital part of the community and saying the improvements would benefit patients.
