Police responded to a report of a stabbing in the Railway Road area of Coleraine earlier this afternoon.
The incident occurred near Iceland. The injured man received initial treatment at the scene from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service before being taken to hospital for further treatment. His condition is currently unknown.
“Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, 1 patient was taken to
Causeway Hospital by Ambulance.”
A police helicopter was also seen in the area for a short time.
Police later attended an apartment in the Beresford Avenue where an arrest was made.
Police said, “A man has been arrested following the report of a stabbing incident in Coleraine on Tuesday, 6th October.
“At approximately 1.20pm police received a report that a man, aged in his 30s, had sustained injuries following an altercation on Railway Road.
“The man was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.
“Following a significant policing operation, a 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody at this time. Police are not looking for any further suspects however, enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information that could assist our investigation is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 690 06/10/26.

Police also attended several other addresses as part of their operation this afternoon, including in the Long Commons and the Heights areas of the town.
East Londonderry MLA Claire Sugden had spoken directly with police earlier regarding the serious incident in the Railway Road area of Coleraine this afternoon.

“Police have established a scene and enquiries are ongoing. I would encourage people to allow officers the space they need to carry out their work.
“I appreciate that the visible police response will understandably cause concern locally. I have been reassured by my conversation with police about their handling of the incident and I will remain in contact with them as further information becomes available.”
