Alliance Deputy Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Alderman Richard Stewart, was speaking following the 72nd Ulster Pipe Band and Drum Major Championships held in Portrush, stating it was a vibrant celebration of music, tradition and community spirit. 

Alderman Stewart said: “I had the privilege of leading the parade along the promenade and up to Kerr Street Green, and I was honestly blown away with the crowds lined up to watch.

“This much-loved event is a vibrant celebration of music, tradition, and community spirit, and it was truly inspiring to see so many talented bands and drum majors come together from near and far. Their dedication, discipline, and passion are what make this event so special.

“I want to express my sincere thanks to the organisers, judges, and volunteers whose hard work behind the scenes makes this day such a success. Their efforts ensure that this important cultural tradition continues to flourish.

“Events like this not only bring our community together but also shine a light on the rich musical heritage that we are privileged to share. I look forward to seeing the Championships return next year.”
